The Cubs form the second section of the Scout Association, and meet in a "Cub Pack" under a Cub Scout Leader or "Akela".

Cub Scouts get to try a lot of fun and adventurous things during their time with the Pack. They will get the chance to gain awards and badges for the things they do. These awards are given in recognition of a youngsters effort at their own level of achievement.

The Cub Scout programme includes things like:

  • First Aid
  • Camping
  • Model Making
  • The Environment
  • Cooking
  • Exploring
  • Helping Others

A parent with a special skill or interest may find themselves invited down to talk to the Cubs or to test them for a badge or award.

  • Ask Cubs what activities they like the most and they will normally reply camping or Pack Holidays. As with most youngsters they enjoy the fun of being outdoors.

They migth go away overnight, for the weekend or even for a few days during the school holidays, camping out or stopping in a bunkhouse. A Pack could go away on their own or may join others from the District or County for a bigger event and a chance to make new friends.

Cub Leaders are specially trained before they can take the Cubs away on a camp or holiday. They take on the responsibility of looking after the Cub Scouts as if they were their own large family of youngsters.
