District Trip to Kandersteg 26 July - 9 August 2008 |
Darlington Scouts are heading back to Switzerland for two weeks in the summer of 2008, following on from our successful trips in 2002, 2004 & 2006. The trip is open to any District members of Scout age and up at that date (101/2 up). We are stopping at the International Scout Centre at Kandersteg in the middle of the Swiss Alps. The site is visited each year by thousands of Scouts from all around the world. The centre has lots to do to fill in our time there. There are outdoor activities such as climbing, mountain walking to spend the night in mountain top huts, river rafting, and for the older participants such as Explorer Scouts and above, things like walking on glaciers, and more advanced climbing are available. All the activities are arranged suitably for the ages of those taking part, using fully qualified staff. The centre also runs non-stop activities around the site every day, and evening events such as the Party, Party, Party night, so that there is always something going on for everyone to do. We will also have a coach with us for the two weeks, allowing trips out to lots of places in the area. Previously we’ve visited Luzern, Interlaken, Bern, Thun, the Aare Gorge and got up to the top of Jungfraujoch at above 3000metres. With all the Scouts there from all over, there are always lots of people to meet and new friends to make. During our stay we also get to see the celebrations of Swiss National Day, where there are things happening all over for us to join in. If you are passing the District Headquarters in Widdowfield Street on a Saturday morning between 10 and 12 during the next few weeks, call in and take a look at the Kandersteg wall display. For any of you with internet access try http://www.kisc.ch for lots of information about the Kandersteg Scout centre, or try the District Photo Album at http://community.webshots.com/user/darlingtonscouts for more pics. You can also see the type of things we do from the programme of our 2006 trip. The total cost of the 2 week trip, including transport, accomodation, food and activities is £515.00 There are also a couple of weekends held for those going on the trip to Kandersteg. These allow the young people from different Groups to get to know each other before arriving in Switzerland. It also allows the young people to be involved in the planning of the trip and what they want to do whilst there. The costs of these weekends are NOT included in the cost of the Kandersteg trip, but we would advise people going to Switzerland to try and get to these weekends as well. The Places on the 2008 Kandersteg trip are now all filled.
